How do I prepare a target object image sequence?

Here you learn how to prepare a target object image sequence needed for tracking.

In order to test the tracking configuration and refine the tracking parameters in REFLEKT ONE Sync an image sequence of your target object is needed.

In addition to the record feature in the REFLEKT ONE Sync app (available from version 1.3 on) which records image sequences directly, you can record a video of the target object with any other camera and convert the video file into image sequences.

When recording a video, make sure it is of the tracking-target-device that matches the delivered 3D files. Please document any differences between the real device and the 3D data.
A good video for tracking testing is a complete 360 degree, smooth walk around the target.

When recording, consider this:

1. Light conditions
     a. Constant light source (no changing light conditions, no flashing lights).
     b. No extreme lighting (not too dark or too bright).
     c. Simple, diffuse lighting is best.
2. Landscape mode
    a. Recording needs to be done in landscape mode.
3. Device
    a. If possible, it’s best to use the same target device as the content will be viewed on with REFLEKT ONE. However, this is not a hard requirement.
    b. Please record in a resolution of 1080p.
4. Environment
     a. A visually simple environment, without too many extra objects cluttering the view makes for a better tracking video.
    b. Having only one of the objects in view to be tracked at a time is best.
5. Movement of camera
    a. Slow, smooth movements starting with the object fully centered in view are best.
    b. Avoid fast, jerky movements.
    c. Object centered in camera as much as possible.
    d. Distance from object – try to keep the object in the full camera frame as much as possible.
    e. Camera movement; it is best to capture the object from a few different angles. Going from about 45 degrees side to side, slowly moving the camera with the object remaining in center frame.

For converting the video, you can use a converter program like MPEG Streamclip* or Adobe Premiere** which supports mp4 format as input.

The image sequence supported in REFLEKT ONE Sync is in .jpg format with a resolution of 720p (1280x720).
