How does the CAD model need to be prepared for tracking?

This article gives you the steps needed to prepare your CAD or 3D model for tracking.

GENERAL INFO:

 

For creating model-based tracking configurations with REFLEKT ONE Sync a 3D (CAD) model either in .wrl or .obj format is needed. This article explains how to convert your CAD file into one of these formats. 

 

HOW TO PREPARE CAD MODEL:

 

.WRL FORMAT (RECOMMENDED, AVAILABLE FROM SYNC 1.3 ON): 

Converting your CAD/3D model into .wrl format can be done in Cortona3D RapidManual directly. To do so, continue as follows:

1. Import your CAD file into Cortona3D.

If you are using Cortona3D RapidManual 12 or higher, please use the Custom profile, marked with the (AR).

2. Select the surfaces appropriate for tracking (usually the outer shell of your object).

3. Export the selection as VRML (.wrl) file (Go to File > Export Selection to VRML > Save).

 

Now you can use the exported .wrl file for creating your tracking configuration in REFLEKT ONE Sync.

CAUTION: The position of the 3D model can no longer be changed afterwards (via set position). This will lead to a malfunctioning tracking configuration.

 


 

.OBJ FORMAT (ALTERNATIVE):

Converting your 3D model to an .obj file requires a 3D modeling program like blenderTM*. With blenderTM you can export the OBJ file with the required settings so that it is readable for REFLEKT ONE Sync and thus can create a model-based tracking configuration.

  1. Import the VRML file into blenderTM (Go to File > Import > X3D Extensible 3D).
  2. Export the file from blenderTM as Wavefront (.obj) format with the required settings:Export OBJ file blender

 

  • Forward: -Y Forward
  • Up: Z Up
  • Selection Only
  • Apply Modifiers
  • Triangulate Faces

 

Go to File > Export > Wavefront (.obj)

 

Now you can use the exported .obj file for creating your tracking configuration in REFLEKT ONE Sync.
