What is the difference between a Tenant Admin and an Area Admin?

This article explains the major differences between the two Admin roles: Tenant Admin and Area Admin.

NOTE: The differences between Tenant Admin and Area Admin described in this article reflect the default settings of Admin Portal permissions. If your permission set up deviates from this default, the differences described below might deviate as well.

TENANT ADMIN VS. AREA ADMIN


Area Admins support Tenant Admins by managing Experts and Technicians within one or more pre-defined Areas. Thus, Tenant Admins can delegate user administration activities to their Area Admins. 
Area Admin users can be assigned to one or to multiple areas. As a rule of thumb, Area Admin users can enact the same Admin Portal functionalities as Tenant Admins, but only for their assigned Area(s). In the following, we take a look at the most relevant differences for both Admin types when it comes to the management of users, Areas and incident reporting. 
 

USER MANAGEMENT

Differences in the Users Overview of the Admin Portal.

TENANT ADMINS AREA ADMINS
  • See all users who have been created on this tenant
  • See only Tenant Admins and users within their assigned Area(s)
  • Can create new Experts and Technicians and assign them to the Area(s) they are responsible for
  • Can activate, deactivate or edit Experts and Technicians within their assigned Area(s). For these users, contacts in the same Area can be added or removed.
 
  • Area Admins can create new Experts and Technicians and assign them to the Area(s) they are responsible for. 
 

AREA MANAGEMENT

Differences in the Areas Overview in the Admin Portal.
TENANT ADMINS AREA ADMINS
  • Can see all Areas which have been created on this tenant. 
  • Can add new Areas for their tenant.
  • Can only see and edit their assigned Area(s).

 

 

INCIDENT REPORTING

Differences in the Incident Reporting in the Admin Portal.
TENANT ADMINS AREA ADMINS
  • Can see all incidents which have been created on this tenant.
  • Can only see and export incidents which have been created for their assigned Area(s).
